D2 hockey splits season-opening series

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - The Waldorf D2 hockey team started their 2024-25 season with a home series against Lake Region State College at the Albert Lea City Arena. After a Friday win, the Warriors fell on Saturday to gain a split.

Friday's game didn't start well for Waldorf. LRSC scored in the game's first minute. Waldorf was able to keep it only a 1-0 deficit into the second period. There, they took control. Zach Jimenez started a great night and a great series with an unassisted goal 2:45 into the period. A Tony Romani power play goal at the 13:56 mark gave Waldorf a 2-1 lead. After LRSC tied it two minutes later, Waldorf regained the lead at the 17:21 mark with a power play goal from Jordan Radke, assisted by Jimenez and Jake Lindblom. Waldorf scored two more times in the third period to gain the 5-3 win. Jimenez assisted on both goals as part of a four-point night. Waldorf goalie  Treyson Boesch stopped 32 of 35 shots.

Saturday afternoon, Waldorf took a 1-0 lead into the third period. Lake Region State erupted for four goals in the frame to claim the 4-1 win. Jaxen Park scored Waldorf's goal in the second period off assists from Jimenez and Jacob Sundgren. Zane Redfern made 34 saves in net for Waldorf.

Waldorf (1-1) returns to Albert Lea September 27-28 to host Jamestown.
