Waldorf Baseball Split against V-Hawks, Finish 3rd in Conference

LaCROSSE, WI – The Waldorf baseball team completed their regular season schedule with a doubleheader against Viterbo. The Warrior split on the day and clinched a 3rd place finish going into the conference tournament next week.

Thomas Capllonch (SR/Kailua, HI) gave the Warriors a nice start to the first game with a two-run homerun. 

The V-Hawks responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 1st and five more in the 2nd to take the lead 2-8.

Robert Gurney (FR/Campbell River, BC) came up with a three-run homerun in the top of the 5th. The V-Hawks scored their final run in the 5th inning to win 5-9.

For game two, the Warriors started off strong with Damien Sanchez (SR/Riverside, CA) getting an RBI double with Davis Churchman (SR/Ankeny, IA) scoring. Sanchez then scored off a sacrifice fly out from Ryan Webster (SO/Las Vegas, NV) in the 1st inning.

In the 3rd inning, Capllonch got an RBI double, and Gurney followed with a two-run RBI single. Juan Jorge (JR/Bronx, NY) hit a grand slam for the Warriors to extend the lead 9-0.

The V-Hawks came up with a big 4th inning by scoring seven runs.

Sanchez started the 5th inning with a three-run RBI single and Gurney followed with a two-run RBI double to go up 15-7.

The V-Hawks made a strong push in the bottom of the 6th inning by adding five runs, making it a three-run game.

Atticus Smith (SO/Kent, WA) scored the final run off a sacrifice fly out; the Warriors won 16-12. Zach Meyer secured the win and pitched five innings with five strikeouts and one walk. 

The Warriors finished the regular season with over 20 wins and its second straight season with a winning conference record. Next up is the NSAA Conference tournament that starts on Friday, May 5th in Dickinson, North Dakota.
