Warriors break open tight game with the long ball

DICKINSON, N.D. - Waldorf hit four home runs in the late innings in the second game of a doubleheader to help them earn a series win Saturday against Dickinson State.

After losing the first game Saturday against the Blue Hawks, Waldorf fell behind 3-1 after four innings in the second game. The two teams each scored a run in their respective fifth inning at-bats as Dickinson State led 4-2 going into the sixth inning. That's when the Waldorf bats erupted. Robert Gurney started the onslaught with a two-out home run to left. Anthony Hibl followed with a double. Ian Carr brought him home with a triple to center to tie the game at 4. Kolby Amaral started the seventh for Waldorf with a home run to center to give the Warriors a lead they would not relinquish. Later in the inning, with a runner on and two outs, Peter Ordonio launched a two-run shot to center. That was followed by another Gurney deep blast that gave Waldorf an 8-4 lead. In the eighth, Zach Meyer delivered a two-RBI double. The Warriors then added six runs in the ninth to add plenty of insurance in the 16-6 win. Waldorf belted 21 hits in the second game. Both Gurney and Carr had four hits each. Amaral and Meyer each added three hits. Waldorf would take three of four from Dickinson State.

Waldorf (17-20, 7-9 in NSAA) is next scheduled to host Northwestern Tuesday at 6 p.m.
