Waldorf battles to 1-1 draw with Crown
ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - In a hectic final few minutes, Waldorf battled back to gain a 1-1 draw at Crown College in a non-conference men's soccer game Saturday night.
Neither Waldorf nor NCAA Division III opponent Crown could muster a goal through the game's first 85 minutes of the 90-minute contest. Crown finally lit the scoreboard with a Jose Lovera goal in the 86th minute. Less than a minute later, Waldorf's Louis Hernandez broke free on the right side and delivered a striking blow in the left corner of the net for the equalizing goal.
"You know the culture of our program has turned the corner in a game like this when going down a goal, and coming back to tie the game, when last year we folded when we went down a goal," said Waldorf Director of Soccer Thomas Goodman.
Waldorf wasn't done there. In the closing seconds, Christian Stewart had an open shot right in front of the Crown goalkeeper, but his shot was just high over the net.
Waldorf (0-1-1) returns to Iowa for another non-conference tilt at Coe College Sunday at 6 p.m.
