Warriors End Night in Draw

FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf women's soccer team was back in action on their home turf for a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening. In a battle that showed a lot of grit from both sides, the game ended in a tie, 0-0.

"I'm so happy for this team. We have limited subs due to injuries, but these ladies are the model for the Warrior mentality, working for each other, and playing with a passion for each other," first-year Director of Soccer Thomas Goodman said. "It can be seen in the hard-hitting tackles and last-minute slides to save a corner kick."

Within the first 11 minutes of the game, goalkeeper Samantha Linteo (SR/Napa, CA) had four great saves.

At the 39th minute, Sydney Boyd (SR/Aiea, HI) found an opportunity for a shot, but it was saved by the Viterbo goalie to close out the half.

Linteo opened the 2nd half with back-to-back saves within 30 seconds. Iveth Guzman (SR/Mission, TX) took two shots on goal that were saved by Viterbo's goalie.

Boyd had two last minute shots, one saved by the goalie and one that missed wide.

Linteo finished the game with seven saves. Boyd had a total of six shots, four on goal and Guzman added two shots on goal.

"The motto our team is using this year is "victoria concordia crescit" which translated means victory through harmony. I feel we found that balance today and we almost found the goal a few times at the end of the game," said Goodman. "Samantha in goal was a rockstar; she controlled her box and made some great saves, as well as distributing the ball into attack. The team gets a must needed rest this weekend before hitting the GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) schedule next week."

The women's soccer team will begin conference play at Morningside on Wednesday, September 13th at 8 pm.
