Warriors Fall to No. 4 V-Hawks

LACROSSE, WI – The Waldorf women's volleyball team opened NSAA conference play on the road against the #4 Viterbo V-Hawks on Wednesday evening. The Warriors got off to a slow start and ended on a higher note, but lost in three, 12-25, 17-25, 21-25.

"It took us a bit to execute and play the way we wanted to, but we finished the match stronger than we started it," Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe stated. "It's challenging to start conference play against a highly ranked team, but we saw moments of being able to play with them."

The V-Hawks took a commanding start to the match with 15 kills on 26 attempts and only one error.

In the second set, Annie Stotlar (JR/Davenport, IA) scored the first point for the Warriors followed by back-to-back kills from Kenzie Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL). A service ace from Reinya Balderson (FR/Marshfield, WI) and a V-Hawk error tied the game 5-5. Viterbo capitalized on Waldorf's errors and went on runs to take the second set.

For the third set, the Warriors were up 6-3 from a kill by Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) before the V-Hawks took the lead 10-16.

The Warriors did not fold and gradually rallied to 17-24. Kaylee Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) got an ace and Waldorf forced Viterbo to make errors but fell 21-24.

Kenize and Sydney Kidd (FR/Roscoe, IL) had team highs of six kills, Kaylee Kidd finished with nine digs, and Balderson and Emma Hovenga (SR/Forest City, IA) added 11 and 10 assists.

Ebenhoe added, "There's still a lot of improvements to make and a lot of volleyball to play – we are ready to get better tomorrow."

The Warriors are now 8-2 overall. Next up, the volleyball team has their home opener against Union College (NE) on Sunday, September 17th at 1 pm.
