Warriors Travel to the Grand View Open
DES MOINES, Iowa- The Waldorf Women Wrestlers hit the road to the Grand View Open this past weekend.
At 131, in her third match, Abigail Atibagos won by a tech fall (10-0).
Three wrestlers in the 138-weight class had winning matches. Izzy Urban won her first and third matches by fall: one at 2:36 and the other at 0:40. She lost her second match to head to the consolation bracket and lost in her fourth match. Niah Smith picked up a win in the first round with a fall at 3:34. Neve Barragan started strong, picking up two wins in a row and winning both matches by fall (2:59 and 4:37, respectively).
At 160, Amaya Lopez went 4-2 and won with two byes, a tech fall (13-3) over Lauren Hill of Baker University, and a fall over Margret Jordan from Carl Albert State College. She came up short against Erika Peterson of Wartburg College.
At 207, Skyler Bruno won her second match over Aniya Herbin from Missouri Valley College by decision (4-2).
Coach Tyreece Gilder said, "Big tourney this weekend. Big effort and hustle from the ladies. Not happy with the results, but very happy with the fight these ladies brought! The extra work they've been putting in is definitely showing."
Warriors are on the road again on Saturday, February 8 to compete in the Lady Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb.
