FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University took on Waldorf University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on a Saturday evening at Heedum Field. A second-half surge by MU propelled it to the first conference win of the season. With the 5-0 shutout, they improved their record to (3-3-1, 1-0-1 GPAC).
Midland took the early lead with a goal in the 10th minute, as Patrick Long collected the ball and put it to the back of the net. They headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead after an aggressive first half with a bountiful number of shots.
After the intermission, Midland continued to build momentum as Eloy Demarquet scored a goal off an assist by Lucas Foreman in the 68th minute. Shortly after, Demarquet put the ball to the back of the net for the second time in the 70th minute.
Cornelius Strehl was able to find the feet of Colin Macke to score a goal a minute later, giving Midland a 4-0 lead. Macke got his second goal of the game in the 86th minute as Diego Saenz assisted.
Midland dominated Waldorf with 34-9 shots overall with 11 on frame in the dominant 5-0 shutout win.
Marco Moresco played 71 minutes in goal, picking up three saves for the win. Drew Arehart made his first appearance of the year, playing 19 minutes and saving one shot on goal.
"It was a great win tonight! The boys played really well," commented head coach Josh Nakayama after the match. "Three points in the conference goes a long way. We are on the road for a bit. We need to keep this momentum going."
Midland (3-3-1) will be back on the road as they head to Hillsboro, Kansas to take on Tabor (2-2-1). The non-conference matchup is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20.
