Softball Jumps Out Early, Takes Game One from Waldorf
Softball hit the road for the first time in conference play on Friday, however, their games with Waldorf would be contested at a neutral site. The two teams met in Sioux Center, Iowa, at the ASB Dome due to the impact from Wednesday's winter storms that passed through the area.
Doane scored all their runs in the first three innings as they posted a 9-1 victory over the Warriors in a five-inning game to open the day. The Tigers pushed four runs across in the first, one in the second and four more in the third inning.
Marisa Marquez drove in the first run by drawing a walk to allow Anna Prauner to score. Faith Molina scored the second run as she crossed the plate on a ground out by Jeryn Allen. Jasmine Villegas plated two runs with a single, driving in Bri True and Marquez.
In the second inning, Prauner grounded out to drive in Lexi Adams from third base. In the third inning, Allen drew a bases loaded walk to plate Molina. Faith McDonald drove in True on a ground out. With two outs, Grace Dowding singled to plate Allen. A throwing error allowed Villegas to score the final Doane run. Waldorf scored an unearned run in the fifth inning for their lone run.
McDonald started for Doane and threw 2.0 perfect innings. She induced three ground outs and three flyouts. Molina threw the final 3.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out eight.
The Tiger offense was limited to four hits but drew seven walks. Allen and Villegas led the team with two RBI apiece. Molina and True led the way with two runs scored apiece.
Game two followed approximately 30 minutes after the final out of game one.
