Mustangs Handle Waldorf in Non-Conference Matchup
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy baseball team easily took care of business, taking down Waldorf in a non-conference matchup 13-3.
Four different Mustangs, Jeremy Figueroa, Jaden Hackbarth, Josh Notriano, and Drew Terpins, would record two RBIs, accounting for eight of the Mustangs 10 runs batted in. The scoring would start with a Nick Meyer double to left, scoring Derek Einertson to make it a 1-0 lead in the second. Terpins would then add his first RBI of the day on a hit by pitch, extending the Mustangs lead to two in the fourth.
In the fifth, Figueroa would score on an error by the Waldorf pitcher, while Notriano added his two RBIs on the day on a double to left center, increasing the Mustangs lead to five. The lead would only grow as Notriano scored on an error by the Warriors third baseman, while Drew Turner scored on a wild pitch, making it a seven run lead. Hackbarth droe in a run on a sac fly to right, while Figueroa added a two run blast, scoring Darrell Michael Jean, capping off an eight-run fifth inning.
In the sixth, Terpins drove in Gabe Wendt on a single to right, while Hackbarth drew a walk to extend the lead to 12. Waldorf was able to strike for three in the seventh on a hit by pitch, an RBI single to right, and a bases loaded walk. The Mustangs however would walk it off via the run rule after Turner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to end the game.
Michael Schaul earned the win, pitching an inning in relief while not allowing a hit and only walking one. Brennan Hansen was tabbed with the loss, pitching three innings and allowing two hits and one run, while striking out one.
The Mustangs will return to the diamond on Saturday, facing off against Culver-Stockton at the Plaster Athletic Complex.
