Warriors edge Mustangs

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Khalil Grayson's bucket with a minute remaining gave Waldorf the lead for good as the Warriors edged Mount Mercy, 77-72, in Tuesday's non-conference men's basketball game at Hanson Fieldhouse.

Waldorf led by 11 points at halftime, then overcame a Mount Mercy comeback that had the Mustangs in front by five, 65-60, with just under six minutes to play. The lead changed hands multiple times over the final five minutes until Grayson's jumper plus a pair of free throws by Noah Miller clinched the game for the Warriors.

Rusmir Hamzic was 11-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, while pouring in a game-high 26 points to lead the Mustangs (0-2). Ryan Bartley added 20 points and four rebounds. Landen Sullivan chipped in eight points and a team-best six boards off the bench.

Grayson and Gabriel Sorensen had 18 points apiece for the Warriors. Miller finished 8-of-10 at the free throw line while totaling 17 points and Kaelon Harkema tallied 11 points. Ugo Ejiofor pulled down 13 rebounds as Waldorf maintained a 40-27 advantage on the glass.

Mount Mercy's home opener is coming up Saturday when the Mustangs host St. Ambrose at 3:00 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
