Mitchel, S.D. –
The DWU women's soccer team earned the hard-fought win over the Waldorf thanks to sound defense from Tiger goalkeepers Isabella Gregg and Abigail Colgrove. The two of them combined for nine saves in the shutout victory.
How It Happened –
After securing two wins on the road, the Tigers looked to keep it rolling. The offense looked to drown the Warriors defense and did so, as the Tigers fired six shots in the opening seven minutes before Waldorf even could get control of the ball long enough to take a shot attempt themselves in the 12' minute. Although the Tigers had the early looks, this match changed to a back and forth match up as each team tried to find an opportunity to score. After a scoreless first 40 minutes, freshman Hannah Petrucci looked to add some excitement to the match. On a free kick just outside of the penalty box, she lined up her shot and fired away, sailing the shot over the Warrior defense to find the back of the net to put DWU up on the board. Tigers led 1-0 after the first 45 minutes. Goalie Isabella Gregg held the Warriors scoreless as she snagged six saves.
Waldorf would struggle through the second half, only being allowed four shots, three being grabbed by Abigail Colgrove and the other being wide of the net. The Tigers put up 10 more shots in the second half but were unsuccessful in their attempts to extend the lead. DWU would go on to secure the win as they controlled the ball throughout the second half.
