
Timm Scores 29 as Men's Basketball Wins at Waldorf
Men's Basketball went on the road Saturday afternoon to Forest City, Iowa, and picked up a 62-57 win over Waldorf. A late 7-0 run put the Tigers in front to stay over the final five minutes.
Both teams struggled early on the offensive end of the court as Doane led 4-3 through the first six minutes. The Warriors were able to find the scoring touch with a 9-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 12-4 lead. Doane finally ended their scoring drought of seven-plus minutes on a 3-point basket from Elson Blanding. He followed with two free throws and Caleb Hrabik hit a 3-point basket as the Tigers tied the game on an 8-0 run. Waldorf countered with a pair of 3-point baskets to regain the lead only to have Doane go on another 8-0 run. The Warriors followed with an 11-3 run before the Tigers closed on a 5-2 run. Waldorf led 31-28 at the halftime break.
The second half opened with neither team scoring in the first two minutes. Waldorf broke through with a dunk to take a five point lead but Doane would respond with a 7-0 run to regain a momentary lead. The Warriors were able to push their lead back to five points, 47-42, with 9:28 to play. Doane used five free throws for a 5-0 run to tie the game at 47-all. Waldorf led 52-51 with 5:19 to play but on the next Doane possession, Hrabik received a favorable back-iron bounce as a 3-point shot fell to put the Tigers back in front with five minutes left. The basket started a 7-0 run and Doane closed out the game for the win.
Brady Timm led all scorers with 29 points on 9-of-15 shooting and 10-of-14 at the free throw line. He added five assists and three steals. Hrabik finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Jack Wilson had a team-high eight rebounds while Casen Chaney led the team with four steals.
Doane shot 35-percent for the game (18-of-52) and 27-percent behind the arc (7-of-26). They were 79-percent at the free throw line (19-of-24). Waldorf hit on 42-percent of their shot attempts for the game (22-of-53) and 39-percent behind the arc (11-of-28). They were 67-percent (2-of-3) at the free throw line.
A big difference in the game came in the turnover battle as the Warriors committed 14 turnovers that led to 21 Tiger points. Doane had only three turnovers in the game and Waldorf was unable to score on any of them.
Four players finished in double figures for the Warriors, led by Ugo Ejiofor with 14 points while adding 13 rebounds. Khalil Grayson and Gene Noble had five assists apiece.
Doane will travel to Hastings on Wednesday, January 15, to take on the Broncos at 7:45 PM.
