CSM soccer gets tie with Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary soccer team left Waldorf University with a tie Tuesday night.

The Flames and Warriors battled to a 2-2 tie in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. Waldorf is a GPAC affiliate in women's soccer.

"I'm proud of the ladies for getting a road point again," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said. "While we wanted a different result, we showed some mental and physical strength today. A lot of things didn't go our way today, but they deserved to get a result and I'm proud they earned one."

Waldorf scored first in the contest with a goal from Iveth Guzman at 19:52. Maria Gonzalez earned the assist.

Then the Flames tied it at 39:08 with a goal from Lesli Donis, assisted by Abbie Anderson.

"Abbie played a cross in that Lesli got on the end of," Irsik said.

CSM took the lead early in the second half with Jimena Estrada Gomez scored at 55:02. Anderson was credited with the assist.

"Abbie played in a corner that bounced around and Jimena headed in," Irsik said.

The Warriors tied it late at 78:27 with an unassisted goal from Olivia Cross.

The Flames outshot Waldorf 23-8 in the contest. Alivia Schade had three saves in net for CSM.

College of Saint Mary is now 3-1-1 in the GPAC and 5-1-3 overall. Waldorf is 0-4-1, 0-6-2.

The Flames return to action Saturday at Midland University.
