Baseball loses to Waldorf as rain cancels second half of scheduled doubleheader
MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Rainy conditions made for a miserable day on the diamond for the Midway baseball team, which fell 20-6 to Waldorf (Iowa) in the first game of a neutral-site weekend series between Saturday.
The two teams were supposed to play doubleheaders on consecutive days, but a rainstorm that persisted throughout the opener continued into the afternoon Saturday, making a second game out of the question.
The contest that was played went back-and-forth early, as Josh Halterman countered a first-inning Warrior run with an RBI single in the inning's bottom half, before Britten Robinson and Eli Glasscock RBIs made it 3-3 at the end of the second.
Unfortunately, Midway would run out of answers as Waldorf responded with five runs in the fourth and six in the fifth. The Eagles got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run Ayden Sciandra homer and RBI Glasscock double, but that was countered by a six-run seventh by the Warriors, who had five players record multiple RBIs.
The rain made life particularly rough for Eagle pitchers, who walked 17 batters while hitting three others.
Glasscock had three hits and two doubles with a run score to lead the 2-3 Eagles.
Weather permitting, the teams will face off for a doubleheader Sunday. First pitch for the opener is currently slated for 10 a.m. EST.
