Bryant's 19 Propels Broncos to 90-68 Win in Conference Opener

(Hastings, NE) – The Broncos moved to 3-0 on Saturday, thanks to a 19-point performance from junior forward Macy Bryant in their 90-68 win over Waldorf.

Hastings opened the game with the first six points, with free throws from sophomore center Rachel Goodon and four points from Bryant. Leading 9-7, the Broncos closed the quarter on a 13-6 run, including three three-pointers from freshman guard Ann Bose, who had nine first quarter points led the way.

In the second quarter, the Broncos extended their lead to 11 after Bryant and Bose each hit a three. A 14-5 run by Waldorf over the next six minutes cut the lead to 35-33, but Hastings stretched the lead back to ten in the final 69 seconds of the half. Sophomore guard Tathis Arredondo made a free throw, junior guard Mariyah Avila had a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, and senior guard Kiernan Paulk hit two free throws during that run to go up 43-33 at the break.

Waldorf kept the game within 13 points for the first seven minutes of the third quarter, then Hastings turned up the heat to end the quarter. A basket from Bryant was eventually followed by another layup from Bryant, then Arredondo hit a three off a pass from Avila to go up 20. Arredondo would hit another three near the end of the third quarter, as Hastings led 21 going into the final frame.

Hastings controlled the game the rest of the way, with Avila, freshman guard McKenna Yates, and Goodon scoring early in the quarter to preserve the momentum and the comfortable lead throughout the fourth quarter. The final score of the game would end up being 90-68.

Bryant's 19 points led the way on 8-11 shooting, Yates had 14 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Bose had 14 points off the bench with four threes. Goodon had 13 points and six rebounds including three offensive boards. Arredondo had all three three-point attempts, finishing with 10 points, while Avila stuffed the stat sheet with seven points and team-highs in rebounds (7), assists (6), and steals (4).

Up next, Hastings will travel to Sioux City, IA to take on Briar Cliff at 2pm on Saturday, Nov. 23.
