
Women's Soccer Dominates Waldorf 8-0
(Hastings, NE) – The women's soccer team scored early and often in their 8-0 blowout win over Waldorf on Saturday.
Senior Dulce Lopez opened the scoring with a goal on a penalty kick in the fourth minute. Freshman Madison Rhodes scored four minutes later on a cross from freshman Norah Stewart.
In the 15th minute, senior Dekota Schubert got on the board to make it 3-0 on an assist from freshman Sabrina DeHart. Hastings scored two more goals in the half, one from Schubert to Lopez in the 19th minute, and the other from Schubert to senior Sara Pedroza in the 22nd minute to make it 5-0 at halftime.
Hastings held Waldorf without a shot and took 21 shots themselves, including 14 on goal. Schubert led the team with five shot attempts, while Stewart and senior Allison Seery each took three shots in the first half.
Schubert connected with Rhodes for her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute, then Lopez found Pedroza for her second goal to give Hastings a 7-0 lead early in the second half. Schubert got her second goal of the game in the 65th minute on a pass from Rhodes to make it 8-0.
For the game, Hastings took 43 shots, while Waldorf did not get a shot off. Of the 43 shots, 21 were on goal. Schubert's nine shots lead the team, followed by six from Seery, four from DeHart, and three each from Rhodes, Lopez, and Stewart. With two goals and three assists, Schubert, who is using her fifth year of eligibility, has moved within one point of the Hastings career points record of 174.
Schubert will have a chance to tie or break the record at home against Midland on Wednesday, October 16 at 5:30pm.
