Warriors Compete at Conference Tournament on Saturday

The Waldorf men's wrestling team competed at the Heart of America Conference Tournament on Saturday. 

"I am proud of our team. Guys wrestled hard today. We know we didn't end where we wanted to today, but that is motivation for next year," Head Coach Ryan Dickinson stated. "Tyler had tough matches in a loaded weight class, but his hopes are still alive for an At-Large big to the national tournament."

Andru Gomez (FR/Tuscon, AZ) competed at 125 lbs for the Warriors. In the first round, Gomez fell by a 5-2 decision. Gomez bounced back to take a win against Tucker Bahm of Iowa Wesleyan by a 12-8 decision. 

In his next dual, Gomez defeated Steele Dias of St. Ambrose by a sudden victory-1, 5-3. Gomez's run for a third place finish was cut short by Brayden Bradley of Missouri Valley by fall, 1:44.

At 133 lbs, Jeyden Castillo (FR/Euless, TX) was defeated by fall, 2:52 in his first round. In the next dual, Castillo lost to Riley Harger of Graceland by fall, 6:35.

Camryn Van Zee (FR/Peterson, IA) competed in the 141 lb bracket. Van Zee lost both of his duals, the first by technical fall by Noah Aken of William Penn, 16-1 and then a medical forfeit. 

In the 149 lb bracket, Dalton Thorson (SO/Lake Mills, IA) and Tyler Okada (SO/Anaheim, CA) both represented Waldorf. Thorson lost his first round to Caleb Nielson of Dickinson State by a major decision, 14-2. In his second dual, Thorson was defeated by Lukas Eagle of Central Methodist by a major decision, 10-1. 

Okada won his first dual over Nikolas Slatoff of Baker by an 11-4 decision. He was then defeated by Cameron Hargrove of William Penn by technical fall, 17-1. 

In the consolidation round 4, Okada defeated Lukas Eagle by a 5-3 decision. Okada then was defeated by Daniel Terronez of St. Ambrose by decision, 7-5.

Itai Hod-Tuszynski (JR/Palmdale, CA) competed at 157 lbs was lost his two duals. The first was against Slade Dias of St. Ambrose by fall, 3:00 and the second was Invi Bella of Graceland University by fall, 1:31.

At 165 lbs, Jackson Prescott (SO/Coalville, UT) was defeated by Tate Nordby of Dickinson State by a 4-1 decision. In his second dual, Prescott lost to Cullen Bruner of Benedictine College by a 6-1 decision.

In the 174 lb bracket, Randry Mugisha (JR/Minneapolis, MN) lost his first dual to Cael Johnson of Baker College by fall, 1:25. Mugisha bounced back to win his next dual over Lance Kettering of Dickinson State by a 17-13 decision. He then was defeated by Drake Tipton of Missouri Valley by fall, 2:19.

Roemelo Hudson (JR/Sioux City, IA) competed at 184 lbs and lost his two duals. Hudson was defeated by Mason Walters of William Penn by fall, 2:41 and Cameron Cornman of Graceland by technical fall, 20-5.

At 197 lbs, Jackson Rickter (FR/Naples, ID) was defeated by Owen Braungardt of Grand View by fall, 0:22. In his next dual, Rickter was defeated by fall, 1:48 to Tyler Casey of St. Ambrose.
