Volleyball battles No. 1 Northwestern on the road
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The Waldorf volleyball team faced a stiff challenge Wednesday night, going on the road to battle No. 1 and undefeated Northwestern for a GPAC matchup. The Raiders proved why they are ranked No. 1 with a straight set sweep of the Warriors (25-21, 25-15, 25-15).
Waldorf held a lead for much of the first set against the undefeated Raiders. Multiple kills from Jalyn Hovenga, Kaylin Koch helped give Waldorf a 12-8 lead. Another Koch kill and one from Anna Longhenry helped extend the lead to 18-13. Northwestern would go on a run from there. They scored the next eight points to take a 21-18 edge. Back-to-back kills from Longhenry and Hovenga pulled Waldorf within 1 at 21-20. The teams exchanged the next four points before Northwestern closed out the set with two straight to claim the 25-22 win.
The Warriors had good starts to the next two sets, but Northwestern would pull away both times to claim identical 25-15 set wins.
