Bio

Alec Nys enters into his first season (2025-26) as the women’s basketball assistant coach at Waldorf University.

Nys comes to Waldorf after spending last year as assistant coach and head development coach for Rocky Mountain College Men’s Basketball. While at Rocky, Nys helped the Battlin’ Bears to win 19 games and win a game at the Frontier Conference tournament. Nys had the opportunity to coach one first team all-conference player, two second team players, and nine academic all-conference players in his one season at Rocky.

Prior to Rocky, Nys served one year as a graduate assistant and head JV coach at Doane University Men’s Basketball. While with the Tigers, Nys coached the men's JV team to their first win in two seasons.

Nys began his coaching career at Dodge City Community College where he helped lead the Conqs to a KJCCC Conference Championship and a trip to the Elite 8 in the NJCAA D1 national tournament. While at Dodge City, Nys specialized in player development, and played a role in developing NJCAA first team All American Jason Edwards.

While in school at Montana State University, Nys was a student manager for the Men’s Basketball program. Nys' four years in Bozeman coincided with the program having its most success in decades; winning six Big Sky tournament games, the 2022 Big Sky Conference Championship, and a trip to the 2022 D1 NCAA tournament as a 14 seed where they fell in the round of 64 to Texas Tech. 

Nys has his Bachelors of Arts in History from Montana State University (2022) and a Masters degree in Leadership from Doane in 2025.

Nys was born in Billings, Montana to parents Mike and Allison Nys.
