Men's Indoor Track Open Season at Bulldog Early Bird Meet
SEWARD, NE – The Waldorf men's indoor track and field team opened their season at the 2023 Bulldog Early Bird Meet at Walz Fieldhouse, hosted by the Concordia University Bulldogs over the weekend. The Warriors got off to a strong start with 11 personal records (PRs) and three top 10 marks.
"This was an exciting opening meet for these gentlemen," stated Head Coach Janna Langrell. "We really wanted to test where they were in their respective events."
Jorge Olivo-Cabrera (SR/Andover, MN) took 1st place in his heat of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.48 to advance to the finals. Olivo Cabrera finished in 3rd place bettering his time with 8.37, just 0.01 seconds away from 2nd. He is 0.03 off of his PR and 0.04 off of the national average qualifying mark.
Nola Reynolds (SR/Olympia, WA) finished 7th in the heptathlon, which consisted of the 1000, pole vault, 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 60m run. Out of the seven events, Reynolds set six new PRs: 6.02m in the long jump, 10.14m in shot put, 1.51m in high jump, 10.08 in the 60m hurdles, 2.75m with pole vault, and 3:02.48 in the 1000. Reynold's indoor heptathlon score and pole vault is 4th best in school history and his long jump is 8th in school history.
"Nolan had a huge weekend in his first ever multi and did far better than we could have asked for," said Langrell.
Andrew Huber (SR/Worthington, MN) ran in the mile and finished in 8th with a time of 4:57.99.
Olivo-Cabrera also competed in the 200m run and ran a time of 23.91. Robay Birri (FR/Forest City, IA) and Robert Beal (SO/Rio Rancho, NM) also ran in the 200m with personal records of 24.30 and 24.44 respectively.
Birri and Beal set two more PRs in the 60m. Birri ran a 7.31 and Beal with a 7.49.
Langrell added, "I'm looking forward to opening at Dordt with our full team."
The men's indoor track team will return after the New Year to compete at a meet hosted by Dordt University on Saturday, January 13th.
