Two school records set in outdoor season opener
PELLA, Iowa - Wade Baker set school records and many others had great showings as the Waldorf men's track and field team opened their outdoor season Thursday at Central College.
Baker already qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Nationals in May by reaching the NAIA 'A' standard in the shot put with a heave of 16.54 meters. In the hammer throw, Baker got to a distance of 52.5 meters. Both marks set new school records.
In total on Thursday, Waldorf athletes set 12 personal records. Nolan Reynolds had great showings in events he participated in for the first time collegiately. His time of 1:01.44 in the 400-meter hurdles ranks eighth all-time in Waldorf history. And his javelin throw of 44.04 meters ranks sixth all-time. Marquis Simpson distances of 6.05 meters in the long jump and 1.8 meters in the high jump now rank him eighth and sixth, respectively, in those events all-time at Waldorf. Marcel Smith's height of 1.85 meters in the high jump puts him fourth all-time. Sprinter Robert Beal had good times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. His times of 11.50 in the 100 and 23.18 in the 200 rank him eighth all-time in both events.
Waldorf returns to action Friday and Saturday at the University of South Dakota Early Bird meet.
