Bio
Janna Langrell enters her third year here at Waldorf University. In two short years, the Warriors have rewritten history breaking 45 school records and posting 197 Top 10 All-Time marks. During her tenure, the Warriors have earned 14 All-Conference awards and seen 11 Conference Champions; setting 2 NSAA Conference Records and earning 1 NSAA Most Valuable Athlete along the way. Nationally, the Warriors have seen 11 NAIA National Championship qualifiers and had 3 NAIA All-American performances.
In 2024, the Warriors broke 14 school records and earned 88 Top 10 All-Time marks. During the Indoor season, the Warriors earned 2 all conference awards and saw 3 individual conference champion titles. Two athletes qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship in three events. Wade Baker earned All-American honors placing 2nd in Shot Put and 3rd in Weight Throw. During outdoor season, the warriors earned 5 all conference awards and 4 individual conference champion titles. Wade Baker was conference champion in Shot Put, Hammer Throw, and Discus breaking the NSAA Outdoor Shot Put record and earning himself the NSAA Most Valuable Male Athlete award. Both Baker and Olivo-Cabrera qualified for NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
In the 2023 outdoor season, Langrell guided the warriors to break 31 school records, set 109 new Top 10 All-Time marks, earn 7 all conference awards, and win 3 individual and 1 relay conference championship title. At the 2023 NSAA Conference Championship meet, Khamarly Holmes set the 400mH record. The Warriors saw 3 men qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship in 5 events – Wade Baker in the Discus throw and Shot put, Khamarly Holmes in the 400m and 400mH, and Jorge Olivo-Cabrera in the 110mH. Holmes placed 7th at the national meet in the 400mH, earning himself All-American honors.
Prior to Waldorf, Langrell most recently worked at her Alma Mater Hope International University, where she served as the assistant Cross Country and Track & Field coach. While with the Royals, they broke 39 school records. The Royals saw 3 All-Conference athletes and 1 Conference Champion on the Track. Additionally, the Royals saw 3 cross country All-Conference athletes with 2 NAIA Cross Country National Championship qualifiers.
Langrell began her coaching career at the high school level at her alma mater (Don Lugo High School) for a year before moving to Troy High School. In 2019 while at Troy, Langrell helped guide the Boy’s Cross Country team to its first league championship in 10 years. Langrell was named the 2019 cross country coach of the year. In her 3 years at Troy, the Warriors saw 8 cross country all league athletes and qualified both the boy’s and girl’s team to the CIF preliminary state meet. On the track, the boy’s and girl’s team each won 3 league team titles. Combined, the boy’s and girl’s distance events earned 13 all league awards, 12 individual league champions, and 9 CIF State preliminary qualifiers.
A native of Pomona, California, Langrell attended Hope International University in Fullerton, California where she was the founding member of the Women’s Cross Country program and covered distances from 400m-5000m, specializing in the 800m. She earned a BA in Psychology and MA in Secondary Education.
Langrell is a certified USTFCCCA endurance event specialist as well as a USATF Level II coach for sprints, hurdles, and relays.
Born and raised in Pomona, California, Langrell currently resides in Forest City, Iowa.
