D2 Hockey Wins Over Bethel 7-6

FAIRBAULT, MN – The Waldorf D2 hockey team was back in action for a game against the Bethel University Royals on Sunday afternoon. In an exciting back and forth scoring battle, the Warriors won 7-6 and had three athletes each score two goals.
“It was a rollercoaster of a game,” stated Head Coach Sean Parker. “Started really strong scoring on our first two shots of the game and then we took the foot off the gas and let them stay in the game.”
1st Period: The Warriors got off to a strong start by scoring three straight goals. Marc-Antoine Vincent (FR/AngeGardien, QC) scored the first goal, assisted by Alex Truelson (FR/Centennial, CO). The second goal came from Zach Jimenez (SR/Mason City, IA) and assisted by Stephen Mosgopoulos (FR/Markham, ON). Anthony Aulisio (FR/Elyria, OH) scored the third goal for the Warriors, Jimenez and Paige Spatorico (FR/North Tonawanda, NY) were credited on the assists.
The Royals scored their first goal at the 7-minute mark. Less than 15 seconds after the Royals’ goal, the Warriors answered with a goal from Evan Koivunen (SO/Wasilla, AK), assisted by Jimenez and Aulisio. The Royals closed out the period by scoring two more goals. Waldorf was up 4-3.
2nd Period: The Royals took the lead in the second period by scoring two goals.
3rd Period: Koivunen tied the game with a goal on a power-play against the Royals, assisted by Mosgopoulos. The Warriors kept the momentum by scoring two more goals. Vincent scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Nate Zimmerman (FR/Elmhurst, IL). The final goal for the Warriors came at the 9th minute by Jimenez, his second of the game, and Spatorico was credited on the assist. The Warriors won 7-6.
Parker added, “Anthony Aulisio got his first goal as a Warrior. Evan Koivunen, Marc-Antoine Vincent, and Zach Jimenez all scored twice. It’s nice to get back in the winning column but we know we need to play better still.”
Next up for the D2 hockey team is an away weekend series against South Dakota State. The first game is on Saturday, January 20th. Puck drop is at 3 pm.
