ALBERT LEA, Minn. - After a weekend off, the Waldorf D2 hockey team returned to the home ice Friday and Saturday for a series against Northern Michigan. The Warriors would lose both contests.
Waldorf dropped the Friday night game, 4-2. Both teams scored quickly. Waldorf did first following a Zack Lloyd goal on assists from Zach Jimenez and Treyson White 2:02 into the game. Northern Michigan countered a goal of their own just 17 seconds later. The game remained tied at 1-1 going into the third period. Northern Michigan would break the tie 11:26 into the period. They added two more goals within a two-minute time frame to take a 4-1 lead. Jordan Radke added a goal for Waldorf in the final minute. Treyson Boesch made 43 saves in net for Waldorf.
Northern Michigan used the momentum they got late Friday into the start of Saturday's game. They netted three goals within the first ten minutes of the first period. Jaxen Park added a goal 13:33 into the period, but Waldorf still trailed 3-1. Jimenez pulled Waldorf within a goal with a tally 8:48 into the second period. Park and Lloyd helped with assists. Northern Michigan scored in the closing seconds of the period to take a 4-2 lead. Again, Waldorf would pull within a goal following a Jacob Sundgren tally 5:03 into the third period. Northern Michigan would score the final two goals though en route to the 6-3 win. Carter Herheim made 38 saves for Waldorf.
Waldorf (2-6) returns to the home ice November 9-10 for a series against South Dakota State.
