D2 Hockey Opens Season with 7-1 against Mavericks

ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf D2 hockey team opened the 2023-24 season with a home weekend series against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. The Warriors won 7-1.
“A good start to the season. We had a lot of first goals and things tonight which is always fun for the players,” stated first-year Head Coach Sean Parker.
Stephen Mosgopoulos (FR/Markham, ON) scored the first goal for the Warriors, assisted by Jeremiah Lebsack (JR/Duluth, MN) just three minutes into the game. Evan Koivunen (SO/Wasilla, AK) found the back of the net almost two minutes later.
The Mavericks scored at the seven-minute mark to close out the first period.
The Warriors added three goals in the second period. Zach Jimenez (Grad/Mason City, IA), unassisted, Nate Zimmerman (FR/Elmhurst, IL), unassisted, and Lebsack, assisted by Koivunen all scored for Waldorf.
In the first two minutes of the third period, Jack Deede (JR/Sussex, WI) scored, assisted by Marc-Antoine Vincent (FR/AngeGardien, QC). Jimenez scored the final goal to secure the 7-1 win.
Waldorf goalkeeper Treyson Boesch (FR/Brandon, SD) finished the game with 28 saves.
Parker added, “2 goals from captain Zach Jimenez is an example of what he brings to this team. Treyson Boesch with his first college win was strong in the net.”
The D2 hockey team is back in action tomorrow, September 30th, for the second game against the Mavericks starting at 2 pm.
