D2 Hockey Battles in Overtime

ALBERT LEA, MN – The Waldorf D2 hockey team finished the weekend with the second game against the Lake Region State Royals on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors lost in overtime 3-2.
The Warriors were first to score with Evan Koivuen (SO/Wasilla, AK) finding the back of the net, assisted by Ethan Boyd (FR/Woodridge, ON).
With five minutes left in the first period, the Royals tied the game 1-1.
Zach Jimenez (Grad/Mason City, IA) scored the go-ahead goal, assisted by Koivuen. The Royals tied the game.
The third period remained scoreless to force an overtime. In an overtime battle, the Royals took the win 3-2.
Waldorf goalkeeper, Zane Redfern (FR/Mason City, IA) finished the game with 49 saves.
“Tough game with a short bench after some injuries. The heart of this team is unbelievable. For the game to end in overtime proves that” stated first-year Head Coach Sean Parker. “I’m really proud of this group and can’t wait to see what happens next for us. A well-deserved weekend off coming up.”
Next up for the D2 hockey team is a home weekend series against Williston State College starting on Saturday, October 21st at 6 pm.
