Esports take on UNI, SMSU
The Waldorf Esports team recently took on squads from the University of Northern Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State University.
OVERWATCH 2 (March 20th)
Waldorf win 3-0 versus University of Northern Iowa
After players Koalemos and Felon suffered a heartbreaking loss in their playoff League of Legends match, they came into last week's playoff match with vengeance. Waldorf, already having played UNI in previous years, already had an idea of what to expect come gameday. This would prove to be beneficial to Waldorf as there were no surprises through the best of 6 series. The first map Waldorf would take UNI to the cold Antarctic Peninsula running a Rammatra brawl poke hybrid versus UNI's full rush. The angles taken by DPS player Valid, was too much pressure for UNI to handle as they had issues closing the gaps in order for their team composition to work effectively against us. UNI was unable to adapt in the cold leading to a swift 2-0 victory on the first map. Map 2, we see UNI take Waldorf to the streets of Monaco. This map however wouldn't go as fast as the first map or the futuristic F1 cars that are all around Cricut Royal as UNI would push the payload all the way to the end of the map with 32 seconds to spare. This was because of a silly mistake, as it seemed like Waldorf had forgotten how escort maps worked in Overwatch 2; allowing UNI to capture all 3 points in the last fight with little resistance. Ashamed and fueled with rage, Waldorf would answer back by going through the same 3 points with over 5 and a half minutes to space. This meant that UNI would now have the push the payload as far as they could, with way less time compared to Waldorf in overtime. Waldorf was quick to shutdown UNI's attack, not allowing them to even capture one point. When it was time for Waldorf to attack, it was lights out. They pushed past UNI's defense without any struggle leading to a 4-3 victory on map 2. Going into Map 3 UNI takes your Warriors to Suravasa. Waldorf knew then and there that it was GGs as Suravesa is one of the more polished maps. Waldorf would stick to what was already working and decided to not talk about what to change after winning map 2. This would prove to be a good thing as Suravasa would be another quick victory with support player Futhark finding a 3k to close the series including a boop off the map on UNI's main healer. Waldorf's Overwatch 2 team looks forward to Semi-Finals and are getting better each passing day.
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS (March 21st)
Waldorf lose 0-2 to SouthWest Minnesota State University
In the first game, Waldorf would find themselves with the early lead with Mid lane player Bleezus finding first blood on SMSU's jungle player who thought it was a good idea to invade Waldorf's jungle. Waldorf couldn't do much with the early lead however as SMSU's jungler would make up for their mistake going for even crazier plays that would prove to be too much, completing the match with 74%KP and leaving Waldorf with many questions on how to counter. There was some light however as Bleezus would punish the plays often finding a kill when SMSU was on the attack. Armed with a new strategy, Waldorf decided that perhaps a more aggressive strategy for our top lane and jungle was the solution to the aggressive plays made by SMSU. This however would prove to not be the solution as SMSU's top lane player would find first blood on our jungler and wouldn't look back. The second games would prove to be a closer fought battle, with the game going over 30 minutes long, but would still end in SMSU destroying Waldorf's nexus.
