Men's bowling team opens season in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Waldorf men's bowling team opened their 2024-25 season this past weekend at the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference (MIBC) tournament in Cedar Rapids.
Coe College won the team competition with 8405 points. Wartburg placed second with 8180 points. Waldorf came in sixth place with 7601 points.
Ryan Kaufman had a stellar showing in his season debut. He earned All-Tournament honors with a fifth place standing out of 105 bowlers. Three of his five games went over 200 including a high of 255. He averaged 218.6 over his five games.
Richard Garrett from the JV team came in 12th place overall with an average of 205.8. Ian Templin from the varsity team was the other Waldorf bowler to average over 200 after a 16th place finish with an average of 200.4.
"The guys had a strong showing the first day," said head coach Kyle Swiderski. "It's a good sign for the rest of the season that they averaged nearly 200 and everybody felt like they underperformed. The second day we lost our fire. We never got comfortable and made a lot of simple mistakes. It was awesome to see Ryan Kaufman earn his first All-Tournament team award because he's been close a few times. Ryan and Rich Garrett had the best days of their careers!"
Waldorf returns to Cedar Rapids next weekend for the 5 Seasons Classic.
