Women's Wrestling Get 3 Top Place Finishes at Conner/Oppenheim Open
CRETE, NE – The Waldorf women's wrestling team competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Open over the weekend. The Warriors saw three top placed finishes in Alanis Serrano-Rios taking 4th, Niah Smith earning 3rd, and Jojo Hendricks getting 1st place.
101 Bracket: Alanis Serrano-Rios (SO/Spanaway, WA) started the day with a 10-0 win, by technical fall over Madison Chambers of Friends University. Serrano-Rios then defeated Kimberly Navarette of Doane University by fall, 3:55.
In the semi-final dual, Serrano-Rios lost to Mia Siqueiros at Iowa Western Community College by technical fall, 10-0. Siqueiros went on to win the bracket. In the consolation bracket, Serrano-Rios defeated Melonie Barillas of Ellsworth CC in a close dual, a 9-8 decision. Serrano-Rios finished in 4th place after falling to Kariana Vang of Doane University by technical fall, 14-3.
155 Bracket: Niah Smith (SO/Davenport, IA) defeated Elizabeth Hubbard of Missouri Valley by fall, 2:30. In her next dual, Smith won by fall, 0:48 over Leilani Hernandez of Texas Wesleyan. Smith then competed in the semi-finals against Victoria Guinard of Hastings and lost by technical fall, 10-0.
Smith bounced back in the consolation bracket with a win over Iasiah Turrentine of Iowa Western. In the dual for 3rd place, Smith won over Erika Peterson of Wartburg by fall, 2:37.
191 Bracket: Jojo Hendricks (SR/Beaumont, CA) went undefeated on the day. In the first round, Hendricks won by fall, 1:06 over Alison Coykendall of York University. Hendricks then went up against Jannell Avila at Baker University and won by fall, 1:01.
Hendricks defeated Tiffany Curry of Texas Wesleyan by fall, 0:46. In the semi-final dual, Hendricks won over Marissa Patterson at Hastings by a 6-1 decision. Hendricks took 1st place with a win against Kelani Corbett at Missouri Valley by fall, 0:32.
Next up for the women's wrestling team is a dual against NIACC in Mason City, Iowa on Tuesday, January 9th at 6 pm.
