Women's Wrestling - Hendricks & Hernandez Place First at Spire Open

The Waldorf women's wrestling team traveled to compete in the Spire Open on Friday. The Warriors finished with two 1st place finishes in Jojo Hendricks and Xena Hernandez.
Alanis Serrano-Rios (FR/Tacoma, WA) competed in the 101 lbs bracket and finished in 5th place. In the first round of pool play, Serrano-Rios lost by fall, 2:57. In round two, Serrano-Rios was defeated by fall, 4:25 and in the third round, lost by technical fall, 12-0.
In bracket play, Serrano-Rios won her first dual by fall, 0:53 against Alexandr Buce of Iowa Centrall CC. For her final dual, Serrano-Rios defeated Graciela Reyes of York College by decision, 12-4 to take 5th place.
Jojo Hendricks (SR/Beaumont, CA) stayed undefeated in the 191 lb bracket. In her first dual, Hendricks won by fall, 0:22 against Virgina Cacho of Iowa Wesleyan University. In the quarterfinals, Hendricks defeated Hannah Eberhardt of Central Methodist University by fall, 0:38.
For the semi-finals, Hendricks won over Sydney Manos of Iowa Wesleyan University by fall, 1:02. In the 1st place dual, Hendricks defeated Lessly Sandoval at University of Saint Mary by fall, 1:27.
Xena Hernandez (SO/Pacoima, CA) competed in the ex235 lb bracket which consisted of three wrestlers. Hernandez stayed undefeated to take 1st place. In her first round, Hernandez won over Karla Padilla Zepeda at Indian Hills CC by fall, 2:32. For her final round, Hernandez defeated Brooke Burns at Indian Hills CC by fall, 1:19.
The women's wrestling team will return to the mat on Saturday, Feb. 4th at the Grand View Open in Des Moines, IA.
