Women's Wrestling - Warriors Compete at Grand View Open
The Waldorf women's wrestling team competed at the Grand View Open on Saturday and had a strong showing.
Jojo Hendricks (SR/Beaumont, CA) placed 6th in the 191 lb gold bracket. Hendricks was defeated in the first round by Tavia Heidelberg-Till of Menlo College by fall, 5:07. In her next dual, Hendricks defeated Grace Gray of Iowa Wesleyan by fall, 1:42.
Hendricks kept the momentum to win her next bout against Karrah Smith of Southern Oregon University by fall, 4:22. In the next round, Hendricks defeated Natalia Villegas of Grand View University by fall, 5:01. Hendricks was defeated in her last two duals and took 6th place.
Xena Hernandez (SO/Pacoima, CA) competed in the gold bracket at 235 lbs and got the 1st place finish. In the first round, Hernandez won by fall over Addisson Hershberger of Iowa Central Community College by fall, 1:35 to take first.
Alanis Serrano-Rios (FR/Tacoma, WA) competed in the sliver bracket at 101 lbs and took 3rd place. Serrano-Rios won her first round by technical fall, 14-4 over Ella Whitaker of York College. In her next round, Serrano-Rios was defeated by Kinsey Smith of Chardon State College by a 6-5 decision.
Serrano-Rios bounced back quick to defeat Britley Lopez of Chardon State College by technical fall, 12-0. In the battle for third, Serrano-Rios defeated Graciela Reyes of York College by fall, 0:00 to get the 3rd place finish.
Niah Smith competed in the silver bracket at 143 lbs and finished in 2nd place. Smith won her first round by fall, 1:11 over Livia Swift of Ottawa University. In the second round, Smith defeated Anna Tuuri by fall, 0:14.
In the quarterfinals, Smith won over Leilani Rodriguez of Grand View University by fall, 0:24. The semi-final dual, Smith defeated Ashlea Larson of Snow College by a 9-2 decision. Smith was then defeated by Leah Gaitan of GVWC by technical fall, 10-0 and took 2nd place.
Next up for the Warriors is a triangular at Missouri Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 8th starting at 5 p.m.
