Women's wrestling hosts home meets to start season
FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Waldorf women's wrestling team hosted a pair of competitions as part of their early season schedule November 8-9.
November 8, Waldorf hosted Dickinson State in a dual. Dickinson State won the dual, 33-10. The highlights on the Waldorf side included wins by Amanda Durrant at 124 pounds by fall and by Niah Smith at 138 pounds also by fall.
November 9, Waldorf hosted the annual Waldorf Open. Edyn Hartman had a good showing at 103 pounds with a 2-2 effort. She won a match over NCAA Division II Kyla Schwager of Sioux Falls by 11-0 tech fall and then defeated Teya Garner of William Penn by fall. Also at 103 pounds, Alanis Serrano-Rios reached the semifinals before falling in the fifth place match. She won bouts by tech fall and fall.
At 117 pounds, Jade Hackett had a 3-2 effort. She defeated Kate Richards of Central College by 14-4 tech fall. Then she topped Carolina Vargas also of Central with a 21-second fall and then Audrie Felkins of Ellsworth with a 29-second fall. Neve Barragan won two matches at 131 pounds. Also at 131, Ari Hen won three matches all of which were by pins.
Niah Smith won two matches at 138 pounds to reach the quarterfinals before losing by a close 5-4 decision. Also at 138, Izzy Urban won a bout by pin.
Waldorf next competes December 7 at the Connor/Oppenheim Open in Crete, Neb.
