Women's team places second in season-opening meet
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Waldorf women's bowling team started their 2024-25 season on a good note with a second place showing at the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference tournament last weekend.
Coe won the nine-team, two-day event with a team score of 7545. Waldorf scored 7023, four points ahead of third place Iowa Central Community College.
Paige Harns turned in Waldorf's best performance of the weekend with a five-game average of 180, good for ninth place overall out of 64 bowlers scored. Her best game was a 218. Madison Singleton finished just two places behind Harns. She averaged 178 with a game high of 206. Heather Viers had Waldorf's other top 20 performance. She finished in 18th place with a five-game average of 167.
"This was one of the most consistent events I've ever seen the women have," said head coach Kyle Swiderski. "They put themselves in a good place on day 1, then showed up strong on day 2 to rise up to second and bring home some hardware. Watching them make up a 61 pin deficit in the final 4 games was so cool. They bowled fearlessly and it paid off."
Waldorf returns to Cedar Rapids next weekend for the 5 Seasons Classic.
