Waldorf Returns to the Mat at the York Open

YORK, Neb. – The Warrior Wrestlers returned to the mat on Saturday and came away with a 2nd place finish by Alanis Serrano-Rios, a 4th place finish by Jade Hackett, and a 4th place finish by Renee Miguel.
At 103 in the open division, Serrano-Rios received a bye in the quarterfinal, sending her to the semifinal to win by injury default. In the 1st place match, she lost by tech fall, securing a 2nd place finish.
Hackett in the 117 amateur division won her first match with a bye and her second by fall in 1:35. She lost her third match but headed to round 4 of the consolation bracket where she won by fall in 0:56. Round 5 saw another win for her by fall in 1:43, and in the semifinals, she won by fall in 2:11. In the match for 3rd place, she fell to her opponent in 1:51, earning her 4th place finish.
In the 160 amateur division, Miguel won her first two matches by falls in 0:34 and 2:50, respectively. She lost in the semifinal but headed to the semifinals of the consolation bracket where she won by fall in 4:17. Miguel lost by fall in the 3rd place match, finishing in 4th place.
Nine Warriors also had successful matches: Edyn Hartman in the 110 open division, Skyler Bruno in the 207 open division, Ashley Gonzalez Escalante and Olivia Maxey-Ladson in the 117 amateur division, Amiee Gordon in the 124 amateur division, Izzy Urban in the 138 amateur division, Angelica Castillejo in the 145 amateur division, Amaya Lopez in the 160 amateur division, and Olivia Burciaga in the 180 amateur division.
"Many of these ladies have been putting in the extra work that it takes to do well at this level, and it's really showing!" Coach Tyreece Gilder said. "We're on the right track, and I'm proud of the effort and hustle from this group!"
The Warriors host Morningside University on Wednesday, January 22 at 6pm in the Hanson Fieldhouse.
