Football Ends Season at Valley City State

VALLEY, N.D. – The Waldorf football team finished their season with an away game against the Valley City State University Vikings. After a big second quarter by the Vikings, the Warriors were defeated 31-21.

"Not the outcome we wanted to end our season. I am proud of the passion that the guys played," stated first-year Head Coach Tyler Chapa. "I think it's important to note that these guys handled adversity of having a new staff right before camp started."

After a turnover on downs in the redzone for Waldorf, Kasen Handal (JR/Tomball, TX) came up with an interception. Quarterback Jordan Cooper (SR/New Caney, TX) rushed in for a touchdown.

The Vikings responded to tie the game with a 12-play drive for 73-yards to close out the first quarter.

In the second quarter, VCSU scored back-to-back touchdowns and ended the half with a 27-yard field goal. The Vikings were up 24-7.

On their first drive of the second half, Taye Buchanan (JR/Vernon, AL) rushed for 19 yards and Cooper connected with Dom Watt (SR/Hollywood, FL) for another 19 yards before Cooper rushed in for a second touchdown. The Waldorf defense held the Vikings from scoring in the third quarter.

The Vikings started the fourth quarter with a quick touchdown to extend their lead 31-14.

On 4th and 3 at Waldorf's own 45-yard line, Buchanan rushed in for a touchdown. VCSU won 31-21.

Chapa added, "We appreciate our seniors for laying the foundation of this culture going into the GPAC. We will keep building on this."

The Warriors finished their season with an overall record of 4-5 and 3-4 in conference. Waldorf finished 3rd in NSAA conference.
