Waldorf Record Trio of Double-Win Wrestlers at Conner/Oppenheim Open
CRETE, Neb. – The Warriors return to the mat on Saturday morning. Waldorf University saw the three wrestlers of Tyler Okada, Preston Ray, and Daven Hames post double wins to highlight the team's effort at the Conner/Oppenheim Open.
Starting at the Open 149 class, Okada won his opening bout via a 14-11 decision, before he came up short by fall against eventual champion Darnai Heard, who wrestled unattached, in the Semifinals. Okada came back with a 10-5 decision before he bowed out in a tight, 5-4, loss.
Both Ray and Hames tested their mettle in the Amateur 165 division. Ray started off strong with a tech fall (19-2) and pinned his third foe in only 34 seconds with losses in his second and fourth matches.
Hames could not have started better with a win via fall in 2:11. After a second-match loss, Hames edged out a 4-3 decision before his day came to an end in the fourth match.
Three Waldorf grapplers won their one win of the Open via fall. In the Amateur 125 class, Malachi Aispuro pinned his first opponent in 5:00 of the second period.
Ronald Hooten took down his first opponent in 4:31 into the second period for his win of the day in the Amateur 157 weight class.
The final Warrior to pin an opponent was by Antwane Webster in the Amature 149-bracket. Webster began his day with a quick fall in 1:30.
Both Zachary Southern and Marco Gandy completed the Waldorf wrestlers with a win. Southern racked up the points in his second bout with a 17-1 tech fall of the Open 125-class. Gandy shut out his second wrestler by a 12-0 major decision win of the Amatuer 141-pound class.
