Waldorf men compete in Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. - The Waldorf men's wrestling team traveled to Kansas to compete at the Falcon Open November 2 hosted by Friends University.
Two Waldorf wrestlers competed in the Elite portion of the meet. Dalton Thorson won one of his three matches at 157 pounds. Jackson Prescott wrestled at 165 pounds.
In the amateur portion of the meet, Zachary Southern had a good showing at 125 pounds. He reached the semifinals which included two wins by fall. He defeated Aden Rieb of Morningside at the 2:31 mark and then Joshua Arevalo of Jarvis Christian at the 4:04 mark. He then defeated Nik Govea of Northwestern with an 11-8 decision.
At 141 pounds, Shiwoko Shiwoko won two matches in the consolation round before succumbing to Dominik Benedetto of Central Oklahoma. Marco Gandy won a match by 11-9 decision. Noah Avila won his first match by 15-3 major decision and later won a consolation match also by decision.
Devon Jeffrey's put in a 3-2 effort in the 157 pound class. He defeated Elijah Marley of Friends University with a 17-1 tech fall. Preston Ray reached the semifinals in the 165 pound weight class. He won battles by tech fall and major decision on his way to the semifinals. Daven Hames reached the quarterfinals in the same weight class.
Waldorf next competes Saturday, November 16 at the Grand View Open in Des Moines.
