Men's Wrestling Fights Hard at Luther Hill Invite
The Waldorf Men's Wrestling team stepped foot on the mat in the Luther Hill Invite on Saturday (Nov. 4) where 22 teams competed.
"Today was a really good day. A lot of guys got to compete for the first time and got their first wins in college. Our veterans came out and handled business and got bonus points in the majority of matches. We are a young team with a lot of talent and potential. Tyler Okada (JR/ Anaheim, CA) competed in the 149-weight class finishing in 2nd place. In Okada's first match, Okada won by fall at 1:54. Okada then moved to the next round where he defeated Hunter Meyrer from St. Ambrose University by fall at 4:06. In the third round, Okada fell to Axel Hernandez from Buena Vista University by decision 6-1.
Dalton Thorson (JR/ Lake Mills, IA) competed in the 157-weight class finishing in 5th place. Thorson drew a bye for his first round. In the second round, Thorson defeated Invi Bella of Graceland University by fall at 4:09. Unfortunately, in the third round, Thorson fell to Travis Guzman of Nebraska Wesleyan by fall at 4:49. Thorson then switched sides of the bracket and competed again Jeaven Scdoris where he was defeated by technical fall, 16-1.
Randy Mugisha (SR/ Minneapolis, MN) competed in 174-weight class finishing in 4th place. Mugisha won his first match by TF 19-2 against Jonah Siebert from Buena Vista. In the second round Mugisha went against Joseph Tequia of Graceland University where Mugisha lost by fall at 3:55. Mugisha took his second loss against Drew Deer where he lost be fall at 5:45.
Jack Grell (FR/ Aitkin, MN) competed in the 165-weight class finishing in 5th place. Grell fell in the first round to Jett Nelson of Graceland University by decision 9-4. Grell then had a bye that advanced him to the third round where Grell beat Mark Leija of Graceland University by fall at 6:57. Grell went on to compete against Jackson Gonzales from Cornell College and won by decision 7-3. Next, Grell took on Cayden Lamb of Southeast CC where Grell took his second loss by decision 7-3.
Jackson Prescott (JR/ Coalville, UT) competed in the 165- weight class finishing in 6th place. Prescott took on Anthony Perez from Concordia University in his first match of the day and won by fall at 2:30. Prescott went on the compete against Brody Hawtrey of Cornell College where he won by fall at 4:47. Prescott then switched sides of the bracket and went against Tommy Wentz from Concordia University where he was injured and took the medical forfeit.
Keith Connaker (FR/ Palmer, AK) competed in the 184-weight class finishing in 5th place. Connaker took his first loss right out of the gate against Garret Moser from Concordia University by decision 11-4. Connaker then had a bye and took him straight to the third round where he met his teammate Roemelo Hudson. Connaker won the match by fall at 2:00 placing him in 5th place.
The Warrior Men's Wrestling team will continue their season on Thursday (Nov. 9th) in a home dual match against William Penn starting at 6:00pm.
