Waldorf Competes in Two-Day Missouri Valley Invite
MARSHALL, MO – The Waldorf Men's Wrestlers headed to Missouri Valley College for their two-day invite on Friday and Saturday.
Shiwoko Shiwoko had a good outing in the 141-weight class. After dropping his first-round match, he turned it around in consolation round one, winning by a tech fall. Unfortunately, Shiwoko was defeated in the next round.
At 149, Tyler Okada had a strong start, securing victories in his first three matches: the first match by fall, the second match by tech fall, and the third match by decision (4-3). Okada's run fell short in the quarterfinal, sending him to round six in the consolation bracket, which he lost by fall. Okada is 16-8 on the season and is currently ranked 21st in the NAIA in his weight class.
Noah Avila showed fight at the 149-weight class as well. After receiving a bye for his first match, he was defeated, sending him to the consolation round. He then picked up two consecutive wins: one by major decision and the other by tech fall. Unfortunately, Avila was unable to advance past the next round and lost by tech fall.
Coach Ryan Dickinson said, "We saw a lot of great competition this weekend. We had two guys (Noah Avila and Tyler Okada) make it to Day 2. Tyler Okada lost in the blood round. It was a lot of the same little mistakes that got us caught up. We saw flashes of greatness and now it is about getting consistent."
