Washington Wins North Star Player of the Week
BISMARCK, ND – The North Star Athletic Association named Waldorf senior point guard Khyle Washington (Atlanta, GA) its Men's Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
Washington led the Warriors to a 2-0 week, with both victories coming at home at the Hanson Fieldhouse. The Warriors knocked off Viterbo, 84-74, on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Waldorf went on to defeat first-place Mayville State, 65-59, on Senior Day Saturday, Feb. 17.
Washington averaged 20.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He poured in 25 points on 9-of-14 field goals and 7-of-11 free-throws in Warriors 84-74 victory over Viterbo. He followed up with 15 points (6-of-9 field goals) and eight rebounds in Waldorf's 65-59 win over Mayville State. For the week, Washington shot 15-of-23 from the field (15-of-23 field goals) and hit 9-of-14 free-throws for 40 total points. He accumulated 13 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals for the week.
"This was a very deserving honor for Khyle," said Waldorf Head Coach Nigel Jenkins. "He had two really good all around games for us offensively and defensively. I am really happy for him and hope that this continues into the conference tournament."
The victories catapulted the Warriors from sixth in the standings to a four-way tie for third place. Waldorf will host a First Round game of the NSAA Tournament for the first time in six years when they play host to sixth-seeded Dickinson State Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Hanson Fieldhouse.
