Warriors Face Tough Challenge Against Defenders
FOREST CITY, IA – In their third straight home game, the Waldorf men's basketball team hosted the Dordt University Defenders on Saturday evening. The Warriors suffered a 1-5-75 defeat.
"3 games, same result. We have to be better in the 2nd half both on offense and defense," said Head Coach Nigel Jenkins. "Not that our 1st half was great tonight, but our energy ad effort was there on both ends. We didn't have that in the 2nd half."
Gabriel Sorensen (JR/West Have, UT) opened the game with a three. Ugo Ejiofor (JR/Dallas, TX) drew a foul on a made shot for a three point play to take the lead at 8-6. Sorensen made another three and the Defenders tied the game at 11-11.
Noah Miller (JR/Forest City, IA) extended the lead for the Warriors with a three, assisted by Justin Wiggins (JR/West Palm Beach, FL). The Defenders tied the game at 19. Two three-pointers by Khalil Grayson (JR/Milwaukee, WI) took the lead at 26-24. With just under 4 minutes left in the first half, the Defenders took a four point lead. The Warriors brought the game within one after a three-point play from Ejiofor. The Defenders were up at half 50-41.
In the second half, the Defenders took control and outscored the Warriors 55-34 to win the game 105-75.
Jenkins added, "Dordt is a really good team. If you want to beat a team like them, you have to play well for 40 minutes."
Ejiofor finished with a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Grayson and Derek Williams (JR/Boston, MA) each had 12 points and Sorensen added 10. Noah Gwinn (JR/Liberty, SC) finished with three assists.
The Warriors continue with another home game against the Mount mercy Mustangs on Tuesday, November 7th. Tipoff is at 7:30 pm at Hanson Fieldhouse.
