Men's Basketball Win Against Martin Luther

NEW ULM, Minn. – The Waldorf men's basketball team was on the road for their final non-conference game of the year against the NCAA Division III Martin Luther Knights on Wednesday evening. The Warriors won 82-60.
"Nice win tonight. The guys played well, and it was a good way to start the year," Head Coach Nigel Jenkins said.
1st Half: Ugo Ejiofor (JR/Dallas, TX) scored a layup and Gabriel Sorensen (JR/West Haven, UT) added a three-pointer for the Warriors. A made shot from Khyle Washington (SR/Atlanta, GA) tied the game 10-10 and Kaelon Harkema (JR/Louisville, KY) scored four points. The Warriors extended their lead to 20-13 with two made free-throws from Noah Gwinn (JR/Liberty, SC) and a jump shot from Justin Wiggins (JR/West Palm Beach, FL).
Gwinn drained a three and Washington added two from a defensive rebound by Sorensen. With 5:55 left in the half, Sorensen grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for two points for a 34-22 lead. The Knights went on an 8-0 run. Washington scored off of a Knight turnover and steal from Sorensen to close out the half. The Warriors were up 38-33.
2nd Half: The Warriors started the half with a 12-2 run over the Knights. Wiggins got a steal off of a Knight turnover that translated into a layup from Washington. Harkema scored four points and Wiggins added two more to maintain the lead 61-46.
Noah Miller (JR/Forest City, IA) and Gwinn scored back-to-back threes with just under five minutes left. Khalil Grayson each scored two points to help secure an 82-60 win. The Warriors outscored the Knights 44-27 in the second half.
Jenkins added, "Now it's on to conference play where everyone knows everyone. We have to get better each day to get ready for a tough Viterbo team."
Waldorf had five athletes with double-digit points. Washington finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Harkema had 13 points with 3 steals and 1 block, Miller added 12 points and 4 steals and Gwinn had 11 points. Sorensen tallied 10 points with 3 assists and Ejiofor had 8 rebounds and 6 points.
Next up the Warriors will begin NSAA conference play with a road game against Viertbo on Wednesday, January 10th starting at 7:30pm.
