"Tale of two halves like all year. We didn't come ready to play last time we played them, but we did this time, we just didn't sustain it in the 2nd half," stated Head Coach Nigel Jenkins. "We were very aggressive in the 1st half, and it worked to our advantage."
The Comets came out for the second half with a 10-1 before Washington got a steal and layup.
With just under eight-minutes remaining, the Comets were up 40-61. Noah Gwinn (SO/Liberty, SC) scored off an offensive rebound he grabbed.
Johnson made a jump shot, Grayson went 2-2 from the free-throw line and Gwinn drained a three to make the score 51-66. Washington scored four straight points to close out the half. The Comets won 55-79.
"The 2nd half, we were flat and settled quite a bit. It took a toll on our defense and Mayville made us pay," Jenkins said. "We have to find a way to put together 40min on Thursday."
Washington finished with a team-high of 19 points, with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Johnson added 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
The Warriors return to Hanson Fieldhouse for Senior Night on Thursday, Feb. 16th against Viterbo to close out their regular season schedule. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.
