Men's Soccer Open Season at Mount Mercy
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – The Waldorf men's soccer team opened their 2023 season on the road for a non-conference matchup against Mount Mercy. The Warriors lost 1-3.
The Mustangs were first to score at the 29-minute mark in the first half. Garrett McBee (SO/Lake Wales, FL) had a header shot that missed just high to try and tie the game.
In the second half, Nickolas Linares (FR/Ontario, Canada) scored unassisted to tie the game 1-1.
Mount Mercy scored two more goals to secure the win.
Goalkeeper Charlie Austin-Ross (SR/Essex, UK) had five saves.
"Mount Mercy was a physical team and trapped us into our own half. We did well in possession when they scored a great goal inches from the goal, we had levels at 1-1 and were pushing for the lead when we started to fade," first-year Head Coach Thomas Goodman said. "I was proud of the team's work rate and if we can clean up our passing in the attacking third, we should be good going forward and we have a week to prepare for the next one."
The Warriors travel to Dubuque for a non-conference game against Clarke on Sunday, September 3rd starting at 2:30 pm.
