Warriors Upset (RV)St. Ambrose and Fall to William Penn at Jimmy John's Classic
OSKALOOSA, IA – The Waldorf women's volleyball team competed in two more matches at the Jimmy John's Classic on Saturday. The Warriors split on the day, beating (RV) St. Ambrose in five and lost in three to William Penn.
"It was a gutsy performance, and it is gratifying to see us continuing to up our game," stated Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe. "We have pushed so hard to set and maintain high standards, and I could not be more proud of the way that this group of women battle together. There is still a lot of season to play, but I am just as excited tod ay as I was on day one."
In the first match against St. Ambrose, the Warriors had a strong start by taking the first set 25-15 with 13 kills and only two errors, posting a match high hitting percentage of .458. The second set was close, but the Bees won 25-22.
The Warriors took the third set 25-19 and the Bees won the fourth 25-17 to make the match go five sets. In an exciting set five, the Warriors were up 14-10 but the Bees tied the game at 14. A kill from Kenzie Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) and a hitting error from the Bees solidified the Warrior win 16-14.
Kenzie Kidd posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) and Annie Stotlar (JR/Davenport, IA) each added nine kills. Charlotte Wright (SR/Porter, MN) had seven block assists and Kaylee Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) finished with 18 digs. Emma Hovenga (SR/Forest City, IA) and Reinya Balderson (FR/Marshfield, WI) led the offense with each having 18 assists.
For the second match against William Penn, the Warriors lost in three, 22-25, 7-25, 23-25. Stotlar finished with a team-high of 12 kills. Alicia Brandt (JR/Lakefield, MN) hit .500 with five kills on eight attempts with just one error. Juliet Karlen (JR/Janesville, WI) and Kenzie Kidd had 16 and 15 digs respectfully and Hovenga had 17 assists.
The Warriors move to 7-1 on the season. Next up for the Warriors is a road match against Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, September 5th at 6 pm.
