PERU, Neb. - The Waldorf volleyball team continued its road venture to start the season with a triangular Saturday at Peru State. In two hard-fought matchups, the Warriors gained two wins to improve to 3-2 on the young season.
The first match against the hosts from Peru State went the full five sets. The first two sets had to go a little extra to declare a set winner. Waldorf lost the first set 28-26. But they won the second by the same score to even the match. In a tight fifth set, a late Waldorf run secured a late 5-0 rally to gain a 15-9 fifth set win. Reinya Balderson delivered a pair of service aces in the spurt. An Alicia Brandt kill closed out the match. Waldorf won by set scores of 26-28, 28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 15-9. Kaylin Koch led Waldorf with 16 kills. Kenzie Kidd added 14 with Anna Longhenry delivering 13. Balderson and Rachel Watson led with 21 and 15 assists, respectively. Balderson also added 17 digs.
Waldorf added another victory in the second match with a four-set win over Bethany (Kan.). After losing the first set, the Warriors took a tight second set to even the match. They then won sets three and four to take the match (20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19). Koch and Kenzie Kidd each led with 10 kills. Kidd also led with 28 digs. Balderson had 23 assists with Watson adding 21.
Waldorf (3-2) next competes Friday and Saturday at the William Penn Tournament in Oskaloosa.
