Volleyball falls in home and GPAC opener
FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Waldorf volleyball team played in their first Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup Wednesday night against Dakota Wesleyan at Hanson Fieldhouse. The Warriors played the Tigers to a tight first set, but Dakota Wesleyan proved too tough and won the match in three sets.
GPAC commissioner Corey Westra was on hand for the historic night at Waldorf. He spoke pre-match welcoming the Warriors as full-time members of the GPAC. The capacity crowd was treated to a great opening set. A Kenzie Kidd service ace kept it tight early at 5-5. Dakota Wesleyan ran off four straight points, but Waldorf countered with three straight ending with a Juliet Karlen ace. Waldorf stayed with the Tigers in the set, but they weren't able to get that lead as Dakota Wesleyan stayed ahead and took the first set, 25-21. The Tigers went on to win the match by taking the remaining two sets, 25-13, 25-8.
Kidd led Waldorf with 11 kills. Reinya Balderson had 11 assists.
Waldorf (6-4, 0-1 in GPAC) is off until September 14 when they travel to Morningside.
