Volleyball Wins in 5 Against Blue Hawks

FOREST CITY, IA – In their final home game of the regular season and for a chance to make the NSAA conference tournament, the Waldorf women's volleyball team beat the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in a thrilling five set match. The Warriors won the first 2 games, dropped games 3 and 4, and won game 5 15-13.
Set 1: The Warriors got off to a strong start with a 7-3 lead. Back-to-back kills from Kenzie Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) and another added from Sydney Kidd (FR/Roscoe, IL) extended the lead to 13-6. Alicia Brandt (JR/Lakefield, MN) and Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) came up with big kills to secure the win 25-18. The Warriors had 16 kills with just two errors.
Set 2: With a 10-3 start, the Warriors kept their momentum in set 2. A kill from Sydney put the Warriors up 15-7. Wright and Sydney got a block kill and Kenzie got a kill for set point to win 25-16. The Warriors finished with 15 kills and forced the Blue Hawks to eight hitting errors.
Set 3: Brandt opened the set with a kill and Emma Hovenga (SR/Forest City, IA) added a service ace. Another ace from Laina Yurs (JR/South Beloit, IL) moved the score to 8-4. The Blue Hawks tied the game at 12. The Warriors re-took the lead and maintained it to 21-19. Dickinson State tied the game again, 21-21 before taking the set 25-22.
Set 4: The Blue Hawks transferred their energy to the start of the 4th set by going on a 5-point run. The Warriors tried to keep up, but the Blue Hawks maintained in control of the set and lead. Wright got a kill to make it a 3-point game at 16-19, but the Blue Hawks won the set 25-18 for force a 5th game.
Set 5: In an exciting back-and-forth battle that consisted of 5 tied scores and 2 lead changes, the Warriors opened the set with a kill by Brandt. The Warriors were ahead on the switch at 8-7. Kenzie had three straight kills to win the match 15-13.
Kenzie finished with a double-double of 18 kills and 24 digs. Longhnery and Wright added 14 and 10 kills respectively. Kaylee Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) had 17 digs and Hovenga tallied 44 assists. Brandt had five block assists.
With this win, the Warriors secure a spot in the NSAA conference tournament that begins on Thursday, November 4th at the Civic Arena in Watertown, South Dakota.
