Hockey - Warriors Sweep Northern Illinois at Home

The Waldorf hockey team continued their momentum off last night's victory to sweep the NIU Huskies this afternoon. The Warriors won 2-1.
The Huskies scored the only goal in the first period.
Austin Mood-Flagg (JR/Slave Lake, Alberta) tied the game in the second period, assisted by Tyler Nelson (SO/Pleasanton, CA).
A few minutes later, Morgan Sweeney (JR/Hastings, MN) found the back of the net for the game-winning goal. Jacob Lindblom (JR/Pine City, MN) was credited on the assist.
The third period remained scoreless as both teams battled with strong defense and goaltending.
Goaltender Jordan Berschiminsky (SO/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished the game with 31 saves.
"NIU did a nice job of getting us off our game. We took some bad penalties that challenged us," stated Head Coach Mike Heitkamp. "Kudos to the kill unit. We were not mentally prepared to play today and that needs to change before next weekend's games. Jordan Berschiminsky did a great job keeping that game close and securing the win for us."
The Warriors are now 13-14-2 overall and 7-8-2 in conference. Next up is their final home conference weekend series to conclude the regular season. The Warriors will host Midland University starting on Friday, Feb. 17th. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
